I remember…

I was sitting alone in the “finance” office at Somera when we lost our Internet connection. I got up an went to the sales side of the building to see what was going on. That’s when I found out that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.
We all sat there looking at each other and wondering what was going on. At one point, Jim Smith said, “Wasn’t Jay (the boss) supposed to fly to California this morning?” I looked up his itinerary and sure enough, I had booked him on Flight 11 to California. We tried calling him at home and on his cell, but we could not.
We all sat there looking at each other, pale and sick with worry. It was several two or three hour before we found out that Jay was home and safe. He had changed his flight to a later one and hadn’t told anyone.
We closed the office shortly after and all went home to be with our families. The ride home was odd. There were no planes. Being about an hour away from Newark Airport, we were on the flight paths of departing and arriving planes all day, but today it was quiet.

Your assignment, if you choose to accept it…

The schools here, apparently, assign the students books that they have to read to get a grade but they do NOT provide a copy of the book to the students. (they did when I was in school)  Oh no….they send them to the library to get it.  How many copies of “A Raisin In The Sun” do they think the libraries have???   What I want to know is, what are they using the taxpayers money in the school system for? Obviously not books.  We used to get a copy of the book when it was assigned and once we finished the assignments, we turned the book back and got the NEXT assigned book.   I am absolutely floored at this.  We were out of  “A Raisin In The Sun” books, so people were checking out the DVDs so their kids could do the assignment.  HOW DOES THIS HELP A CHILD LEARN TO READ????
