I had my follow up doctor’s appointment today. I’ve been really nervous because I had gained some of the weight I had lost back. When I stepped on the scale at the doctor’s office, it weighed me lighter than I had anticipated (3 pounds less than my home scale!) According to the doctor’s scale, I have lost 14 pounds. That is my official total now. My blood pressure was back to normal and I had absolutely no edema in my legs, ankles, feet. The doctor was THRILLED. He actually said he was proud of me. He, of course, wanted to know what I have been doing to achieve this weight loss. I explained that I was using www.SparkPeople.com to count my calories and log my exercise. I said that I walk at the mall with my friend Claudia. He was impressed that we had walked 4 miles yesterday. I also told him about exercising with the Wii Fit. He was happy to hear how supportive my family and friends have been. My husband, Mike, has been so helpful and has eaten some interesting meals. (Thank you for being so great about the ones that weren’t so tasty!)
I am feeling so good.
So, on July 19th I began a journey. It started when I was weighed at my doctor’s office and started to cry. I was expecting to get yelled at by the doctor but, instead he listened to me cry and helped me come up with a plan to eat healthier, exercise, and lose the weight. It’s been 27 days and I’ve managed to lose 10.8 pounds.
To say that I am thrilled with this outcome would be an understatement. This is the FIRST time I have ever lost this much weight. It has been even more of a challenge because healthy food is so much more expensive than the unhealthy stuff. I’ve been lucky to have great friends who have been very supportive and a husband who has been so wonderful about having to eat beans. There are so many great resources out there to help you make a delicious healthy recipe. SparkRecipes.com, AllRecipes.com, WeightWatchers.com all have some great recipes. Google has also been a great way to find heathified versions of your favorites.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 27 days will bring in my journey to getting healthier. Anyone want to join me?
